A European Great Place to Work Award means employer branding across national borders

On 5 June, Europe's "Best Employers" were awarded in Stockholm. On the one hand, there were international companies based in Switzerland whose employees were also included in the survey. These were Adecco Group, AbbVie Inc, Mars Inc, SAS Institute Inc, SC Johnson, Amgen Inc, DHL Express and Hilti. On the other hand, the Swiss companies Rackspace, Domicil Bern and Sensirion were also involved. We met Constanze Haibach, Senior Manager Employer Branding & Recruiting at Sensirion. She explained to us why she didn't put the trophy on the shelf and what it has to do with international university graduates.

"Barack Obama, Al Gore and Kofi Annan were already sitting in this room today," says the Swedish presenter into the microphone. A murmur goes through the audience. "Here, in Stockholm City Hall, where every year people are awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for outstanding achievements in peace, we would also like to honour outstanding achievements this evening," she says, "so I would like to welcome you to the European Great Place to Work Awards 2019! Thunderous applause is heard, the live band begins to play and the light is dimmed.

This was the start of the award ceremony for Europe's "Best Employers", which took place on 5 June 2019. Four different categories were awarded: the 25 best multinational companies, the 30 best large companies, the 50 best medium-sized companies and the 20 best small companies. Among the winning companies were Rackspace (19th place, category: best small companies), Domicil Bern (26th place, category: best large companies) and Sensirion, which received the trophy for eighth place in the "best large companies" category. With a happy smile on his face and a trophy in his hand, Constanze Haibach, Senior Manager Employer Branding & Recruiting at Sensirion, came off the stage - and took a short time to join us:

Best Workplaces Europe 2019 Sensirion 3

Great Place to Work: "Congratulations on the eighth place in the European Great Place to Work Awards! How does it feel to be ranked among the top ten European employers?"

Constanze Haibach: "The award makes us incredibly proud! It shows that Sensirion as an employer does the work right and that our employees are among the most satisfied in Europe. Playing in the European league and being among the best is a great feeling! At the same time, the award is also important for our internal employer branding: our employees see that our workplace culture is so good that we even receive awards throughout Europe - and that is remarkable. The award is also extremely valuable for our external employer branding, as we are looking for specialists beyond our national borders. It is becoming more and more difficult for us as SMEs to find good engineers. And when we then set up the trophy at the international trade fairs, this not only helps us to communicate our good workplace culture, but also to recruit talent."
