What it takes to be one of the Best Workplaces™
A great employer succeeds in creating an environment in which employees can sustainably develop their potential. The basis for this is, above all, a high degree of trust, achieved through lived values and leadership quality.
This year's Best Workplaces™ stand out from the Swiss average in particular for high management integrity. While pride in one's employer remains the most important factor when it comes to job satisfaction, the role of management in particular has become much more important compared to recent years and is one of the top factors for a great workplace culture.
For example, employees at Best Workplaces™ 2024 are convinced that their managers deliver on their promises (85% vs. 52%), exemplify the best qualities of their organization (84% vs. 48%), and behave honestly and ethically (92% vs. 69%).
Michael Hermann, consultant and co-owner at Great Place To Work says: "Managers' honesty and integrity are no longer just an implicit requirement. Rather, they have a direct impact on employer attractiveness and employee engagement in the workplace. It's pleasing to see that the Best Workplaces in Switzerland do particularly well in this regard".
Investing in your culture pays off: Creating great workplaces for all results in engaged employees who are proud to work in your organization (91% vs. 61%), who want to work there for a long time (86% vs. 60%) and who act as ambassadors for your great workplace (88% vs. 58%).
A great workplace culture not only leads to greater engagement, productivity and value creation. It can also play a critical role in employer branding. By projecting your culture externally, your employees are more authentic than any commercial, helping to capture the interest of potential employees and build a strong, authentic and honest employer brand.
The Best Workplaces™ in Switzerland 2024

Highlighting outstanding achievements with the Great Place To Work Spotlight Awards
The Spotlight Award was established by Great Place To Work to recognize organizations that excel in key dimensions of the Great Place To Work model and serve as role models for other companies. This year, three Spotlight Awards will be presented in the categories Leadership, Innovation Culture and Values.
As part of an exclusive series of events (dates to follow), we will delve deeper into the three topics and give a selected audience the opportunity to benefit from the best practices of the winners.
Spotlight Award Leadership: Hilti AG & Hilti Schweiz AG
Leadership effectiveness happens when your leaders know where your company is headed and how to get there. It is built on three fundamental pillars of trust: Credibility of management, fairness within the organization and respect between employees. Great Place To Work now honors organizations with outstanding leadership with the Spotlight Award Leadership for the first time.
Hilti AG & Hilti Schweiz AG not only made it to the top of the Best Workplaces™ in Switzerland podium in the Large category this year, but also received the Spotlight Award Leadership. Their data clearly shows how their effective and innovative strategies enable their leaders to be trailblazers for their entire organization.
Christian Ranacher, Head of Hilti Headquarters HR: "At Hilti, we believe in fostering a culture of transparency and communication to ensure that every team member understands where the organization is heading and how we plan to get there. By empowering our employees with knowledge and insight into our strategic direction, we not only achieve higher employee satisfaction scores, but also enable management to have a clear view of our collective trajectory. Together, we bring to life our mission of making construction better.”
Lea Ryter Ciampi, Head of HR Hilti Switzerland "To enhance an environment where open communication thrives, we conduct annual initiatives such as the Global Employee Opinion Survey (GEOS), which has been in place for more than 20 years, and regularly participate in the Great Place To Work employee survey. This also serves as a good basis for fostering communication, collecting valuable input from team members through our internal ambassadors and implementing them with action plans."
Spotlight Award Values: APP Unternehmensberatung AG
Living values is crucial because it creates the foundation for trust, credibility and long-term success of an organization. If an organization's values only exist on paper and are not actively lived, they lose their significance and the trust of employees dwindles. With our Spotlight Award on the topic of "living values", we want to put the spotlight on organizations that have successfully anchored their values in the company so that they are clearly understood and lived by employees.
This year, the Spotlight Award Values goes to APP Unternehmensberatung AG.
Spotlight Award Innovation Culture: goSecurity AG
A positive error culture, investment in employees and a clearly defined purpose in the job are decisive factors that pave the way for strong innovation. Companies that know how to learn from mistakes, actively encourage their employees and support them in their personal development, as well as communicate a clear vision and a shared sense of purpose for their work, create an environment that promotes creativity and innovation.
And it is precisely these organizations that we would like to highlight with the "Spotlight Award Innovation Culture".
goSecurity AG manages to ensure that employees are committed and want to try out new things. How do they do this? And how this is reflected in the results can be seen here:
Kyan Wellbeing Award
Mental health has a direct impact on employee wellbeing, productivity and retention. Through targeted promotion of mental health, organizations can reduce stress, increase employee satisfaction and improve performance. In addition, investing in mental health helps to create a positive workplace culture and strengthen the organization's reputation as an attractive employer.
Together with Kyan Health, the leading Swiss-based digital health company around mental health and mental wellbeing in the workplace, we would like to recognize outstanding organizations that strategically prioritize and proactively promote the wellbeing of their employees with holistic approaches through the "Kyan Wellbeing Award" 2024.
