We introduce ourselves

The FOITT is the powerhouse behind the digital transformation of Switzerland's public services. With around 1,200 employees, it supports the Federal Administration in all IT areas, from the first client contact to the finished IT product. The wide range of client projects, state-of-the-art technologies and the use of agile methods are part of our everyday work. The New Talent sector has been training IT specialists to Federal VET Diploma standard since 1999, and since 2012 has also been offering training as a mediamatics technician with a Federal VET Diploma. In 2018, the FOITT was one of the first host companies to introduce training as an ICT specialist with a Federal VET Diploma and has also been involved in the latest occupational profile "digital business developer with a Federal VET Diploma" from the outset. The work-study Bachelor's degree programme in IT is an ideal launching pad for baccalaureate holders. A total of around 80 future professionals are in training at the FOITT at any one time. Over 200 apprentices have already successfully completed their apprenticeship at the FOITT – many of them remain loyal to the FOITT after their apprenticeship.

What defines us

During training, the focus is consistently on our apprentices.

The goal is to train them to become sought-after ICT specialists. They play a decisive role in shaping their individual training – for example, by choosing the focal points of their training from a wide range of attractive work placements. Committed practical instructors pass on their knowledge with a great deal of passion and involve the apprentices in the day-to-day business and in ongoing projects.

To get the apprentices off to the best possible start, the Vocational Training Centre (Bbc) organises an induction week that focuses on getting to know each other, sporting activities and having fun together. Afterwards, they all complete a basic year of training at the Bbc, which provides them with optimal preparation for their apprenticeship at the FOITT. This means that they are well equipped for FOITT projects and day-to-day business in the second year of their apprenticeship. In addition to a notebook, a smartphone and an attractive monthly salary, apprentices also receive a Half Fare Travelcard. This is a good basis for discovering every corner of Switzerland during their seven weeks of annual leave.

Executive management comment

Vocational training is dear to my heart. Apprentices are our future: in the war for talent, it is crucial that we train and promote young talents, thereby providing them with optimal preparation for the working world. This is the key to rising to the challenges of the future and decisively driving forward the digitalisation of public services.

Director of the FOITT
